PSC chairman: AJK premier picks Lt Gen Mohsin Kamal

Sources say new chief to help pick nine members

MUZAFFARABAD: In order to ensure merit in people recruited for public sector, the Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) government on Saturday decided to appoint former 10 Corps Commander Lt. General (retd) Mohsin Kamal as the next chairman of the Public Service Commission (PSC), official sources told The Express Tribune here on Saturday.

The decision came a day after the government had issued an ordinance dissolving the previous board the PSC.

Confiding details of the move, the official said that AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider Khan had personally requested Gen (retd) Kamal to accept the post.

“General (retd) Kamal was assured of the AJK government’s full support to make the PSC a vibrant, impartial and an institution free of political interference,” the source further revealed.

Following the appointment of PSC chairman, sources said that nine other members of the commission would now be appointed with consent of Gen (retd) Kamal.

Gen (retd) Kamal was born in Sialkot in 1953 and received his early education in Muzaffarabad. He joined Cadet College Hasanabdal in 1966 (13th Entry) and remained there till 1971. Later that year, he joined the Pakistan Military Academy in Kakul.

He held various command, staff and instructional appointments during his military career including command of two infantry battalions and an infantry brigade.
