Exchange of fire: Three ‘gangsters’ shot dead in targeted raid

Two Rangers personnel also wounded in crossfire

KARACHI: The paramilitary troops claimed to have killed on Thursday at least three alleged gangsters in a shootout. They were reportedly wanted by the police in criminal cases.

The encounter took place when the Rangers raided the hideout of the suspects in Yousuf Goth area and the suspected gangsters opened fire at the paramilitary troops. After an exchange of fire, the Rangers killed three alleged gangsters while two Rangers personnel were also wounded in the crossfire.

The deceased suspects were later shifted to Civil Hospital, Karachi, where they were later identified as Nawaz Ali alias Joga Jamali, Amin Chamber and Junaid. “All the three gangsters belonged to [a] gang [based in] Lyari,” said a Rangers spokesperson, adding that they were wanted in a number of targeted killings and terrorism cases.

According to the Rangers spokesperson, one of the suspected gangsters, Ali, got three-month militancy training in Chaman, Balochistan, in 2011 along with the Taliban. The suspect was allegedly involved in 66 cases of targeted killings, 11 cases of hand grenade attacks, extortion cases and street crimes. The remaining two suspected gangsters were involved in over 30 cases of targeted killings. The Rangers also claimed to have recovered arms and ammunitions from their possession.
