Many people have given up farming due to lack of water

HARIPUR: Receding water levels in the Khanpur Lake have increased difficulties of farmers in the surrounding areas. Owing to lack of rains in the region, water inflow in Khanpur Lake has dropped to the minimum level, leaving the farmlands parched. Yields at vegetable farms and fruit orchards of Khanpur tehsil were gradually diminishing. Zahid Khan, an orange orchard owner, said that a sharp decline in rainfall had depleted water supply in the lake which in turn adversely affected the yield of his orchard. The 100 kanal orchard has produced half the oranges it did last year, he complained. Zahid said many people have given up farming due to lack of water.
