ISLAMABAD: Water and Power Minister, Raja Pervaiz Ashraf on Wednesday lauded results of the energy saving measures as PEPCO claims reduction in electricity shortfall to 987 mega watts.

Talking to the media after the signing ceremony of the Keyal Khwar hydro-power project in Islamabad, the minister said that the menace of loadshedding has been resolved to a great extent.

Talking about the project, which is to be completed in four years, the minister said that it will produce 122 mega watts of electricity.

The project will be supported by the Yemeni and German governments while the latter has already provided 122 million euros.

Ashraf said that his ministry has concentrated on generating hydro-electric power. He confirmed that work has sped up on the Bhasha dam project, which will be completed by July.

The water and power minister also asserted that revenue generating industries like the textile sector have been exempted from loadshedding.
