Image messaging and multimedia mobile application Snapchat has topped tech giant Apple's list of 2016's most popular apps.
This shouldn’t come as a surprise as Snapchat’s popularity increased manifold this year courtesy innovative updates and the release of its first hardware product Spectacles. It is worth mentioning that Snapchat also made it to the list last year coming in at 5.

As expected, some big names figured in the top 10 with Facebook’s Messenger taking second place followed by augmented reality sensation Pokemon Go.
Instagram , Snapchat’s biggest rival, took fourth spot.
Separately, the list for the paid category was topped by Heads Up! for the second time in a row followed by Face Swap Live and Minecraft: Pocket Edition.
Apple also released its 2016 editorial picks, crowning Prisma as the best iPhone app of the year and Clash Royale as the best iPhone game.
