Methods of research: Ways of using archives discussed

LAHORE: Methods to use archives for research in social sciences were discussed on the second day of a workshop.

“All archives have a specific perspective, therefore, we must be careful about how much we accept their word,” said Lahore University of Management Sciences professor Dr Ali Usman Qasmi on Saturday.

He gave a presentation on the topic titled ‘The Idea of an Archive’. Qasmi was of the view that one must be vigilant about finding the truth in archival work.

Also present on the occasion, Dr Ilyas Chattha from University of Southampton spoke about issues pertaining to local archives.

The director of Punjab Archives and deputy director of National Documentation Wing in the Cabinet Division gave a presentation on their respective repositories.
