ISLAMABAD:
To improve the drainage system of Gujranwala city, the Japanese government has provided pumps and other equipment to the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) Gujranwala.

According to a press release issued on Friday, the equipment was handed over at a ceremony held on the same day. The step has been taken under the project planned to upgrade the mechanical system for sewerage and drainage in Gujranwala. The cleaning equipment has been provided to reduce damages that are brought forth during floods and which subsequently hamper daily life in the city.

The press release quoted Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan Takashi Kurai as saying on the occasion that owing to increasing population, rapid urbanisation and climate change, the management of water and sanitation in Pakistan must be addressed on a priority basis. He added that as a good friend of the country, Japan will continue to support Pakistan in its future endeavours.
