Funds approved: PIMS may get waste disposal unit

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims), one of the largest public sector hospitals in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad, will soon get a unit for shredding, sterilisation and disposal of medical waste. In this regard, the government has approved a sum of Rs199 million. An official of the Ministry of Planning, Development and Reforms said on Wednesday the Pims administration has been directed to rationalise the scope of the project. The hospital lacks proper equipment with the capacity to safely dispose of the medical waste that it generates. A number of waste management projects conceived for the hospital in the past, but were not materialised due to management issues, said an official at Pims.
