A pollution study group will be set up to combat environmental challenges in Punjab, said University of Punjab Vice-Chancellor Dr Mujahid Kamran on Tuesday at a seminar titled ‘Smog: Formation, Impacts and Mitigation’.

“Research on environment is being carried out at various departments of the university and scientists and students from different departments will be included in this group,” he said.

A dengue research group has already been set up and has made several predictions, helping the government and the people to curb dengue.

University of Punjab College of Earth and Environmental Sciences Principal Dr Sajid Rashid was of the view that Lahore and its surrounding areas were covered in smog due to pollution in India.

Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission Satellite Monitoring Group Head Shoaib Shafiq highlighted the difference between smoke, cloud, fog and smog through satellite images and briefed about instruments being used by the commission.
