A large number of students from different institutions were in for a treat at the University of Engineering and Technology (UET), Lahore on Wednesday as proud owners of the scaled aircraft talked about their designs.
The event was organised by the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) of UET Lahore chapter on its 10th anniversary.
According to a UET statement, Aeromania 2016 was the first-ever jet models exhibition. The exhibits of aircraft, quad copters, replicas and models on display were built with everyday materials and were all operational.
UET Lahore Mechanical Engineering Faculty Dean Dr Nadeem Ahmad Mufti along with Mechanical Department Chairman Dr Nasir Hayat, Student Affairs Director Dr Asif Ali Qaiser and the ASME UET president inaugurated the event.
Dr Nadeem said that mechanical engineers played a vital role in industries such as automotive, aerospace, devices and manufacturing of other instruments and Pakistani engineers had the potential to deliver innovations in the field.
“Commitment and devotion is required to bring about a mechanical revolution in the country that will fulfil the needs of national and international markets,” he said.
Dr Nadeem said skills were the basic requirement to excel in this field and youth must learn modern trends of the sector to contribute positively.
He admired the role of ASME, which, he said, was promoting art, science and practice of interdisciplinary engineering in the world.
Dr Nadeem said similar events should be organised to encourage aspiring engineers as they helped provide confidence to the students and extended relations with the industry.
A cake-cutting ceremony on the completion of 10 successful years of the ASME was also held.
