RAWALPINDI: A 60-year-old murder suspect died on Tuesday in the Gangmandi police station lockup. He had been arrested in connection with an old case.

According to available information, Ganjmandi police brought Saif Ali from Dir in K-P after he was arrested there. He was put in the lockup as he was nominated by the complainant in a murder case dating back to 2002.

Ali was shifted to Rawalpindi on Tuesday morning. In the evening, he asked another suspect in the lockup for a blanket as he was feeling cold. After getting the blanket, Ali fell asleep, a police officer at the station said. When other prisoners noticed that Saif was not moving, they called the officers for help. Ali was rushed to District Headquarters Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
