KARACHI: Former petroleum minister Dr Asim Hussain, who is currently getting treatment at the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC) under custody, visited his ailing mother at Dr Ziauddin Hospital in North Nazimabad on Tuesday afternoon.

According to Ziauddin Hospital public relations officer Amir Shahzad, Dr Asim's 92-year-old mother, Dr Aijaz Fatima, has been suffering from lung infection and pneumonia attack since Friday and was admitted to the hospital. According to Shahzad, Dr Asim has been allowed by the court to visit Dr Ziauddin Hospital for his hydrotherapy, as he had a paralytic attack a few days ago. However, on his first visit, Dr Asim went to meet his ailing mother, he said. Dr Asim had a one-hour permission for his hydrotherapy, which he spent with his ailing mother, Shahzad said, adding that later on he went back to the JPMC.

Earlier, an accountability court had allowed Dr Asim to seek hydrotherapy at Dr Ziauddin Hospital twice a week, since it is the only hospital that offers the facility. Dr Asim had moved an application before the accountability court-IV judge, Saad Quresihi, for his hydrotherapy at a private hospital, contending that the public hospital JPMC, where he is getting treatment under custody, cannot perform hydrotherapy.
