Chehlum security: 46,000 cops to protect mourners across Sindh

More than 46,000 policemen will be deployed across Sindh to avoid any untoward incident

KARACHI: The Sindh police have chalked out a security plan for the Chehlum of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) to provide security to participants of the procession.

More than 46,000 policemen will be deployed across Sindh to avoid any untoward incident, states the security plan report prepared by Sindh police.

In Karachi, 17,950 police officers will perform security duties. About 5,727 cops will be deployed to secure the central procession of Chehlum as intelligence agencies have warned them of possible terrorist attacks.

As many as 100 big and small mourning processions will be held in Karachi, whereas 460 majalis will be organised in different parts of the metropolis.

The report said that the snipers will also perform rooftop security duties surrounding the central procession. The administrations of imambargahs and community representatives will keep a close vigil on the entrances of the imambargahs. Moreover, only vehicles with special stickers will be allowed to join the mourning procession and parking spaces for the vehicle have already been identified at a safe distance from the procession routes.

Aerial surveillance of the main procession will be conducted and helicopters will be used to monitor the routes of the mourning procession.

Chehlum: Security beefed up in Pindi

The route of the main mourning procession will be sealed completely and 30 vans with closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras will be installed.
