Crackdown: Police bust gang of robbers

Unlicenced weapons recovered during searches across capital

ISLAMABAD: As many as 14 outlaws, including a five-member gang of dacoits, have been apprehended in separate raids, police said on Friday.

Officials said they had recovered a bike, weapons and ammunition from the possession of these outlaws.

Acting on a tip-off about a gang of dacoits hiding near the Bahria Enclave on Kuri road, DSP Arif Hussain Shah led a five-member police team to raid the suspected hideout.

During the raid, police apprehended the five alleged dacoits identified as Abid, Shan, Sadi, Shafiq and Liaqat.

These men were wanted for numerous cases of theft and dacoity in Margalla, Shehzad Town and Okara.

During questioning, the suspects confessed to having robbed houses in Tumair, Pind Begwal and Barma Town. Further investigations were underway.

Meanwhile, in another incident Karachi Company police arrested Sheeraz, Nayyer, Liaqat and Shabbir besides recovering two pistols, ammunition and knives from them.

Shalimar police nabbed Qasim for possessing a 30 bore pistol without due documentation.

Separately, Crime Investigation Agency apprehended Nasar Khan for possessing an illegal 30 bore pistol. Sabzi Mandi police recovered 12 bore repeater from Safeer, while a motorbike was recovered by Sihala police from the possession of Faisal Yaseen and Abdul Rehman.

Cases have been registered against them under the Arms Act and further investigations were in process.

Meanwhile Tarnol police recovered a pistol form a suspect during a combing operation. ASI ASif Raza reported that during joint combing-and search operations, a 9mm pistol and 48 bullets were recovered from Noor Mohammad’s possession. He was booked under the Arms Ordinance.
