Kajol feels women become better looking as they age

MUMBAI: Kajol recently admitted that it took quite some time for her to believe that she is beautiful. “A lot of things have changed over the years but now, I believe that I am beautiful and it took me a long, long time to realise that,” said the actor, at a launch event on Monday. “My beliefs about myself have changed and I think I am a better person today. I have grown, hopefully!”

Kajol, 41, went on to reveal her personal skin care regime. “I believe it is wise to take a regular skin care process up in your twenties so as to maintain youthful skin in your thirties,” she advised. “There aren’t any beauty secrets in my family; we are just genetically beautiful. One thing I tell everyone is that to be absolutely clean and neat, drinking lots of water and washing your face three times a day is very important,” added the mother of two, who hopes to be the mirror image of her mother Tanuja in her own old age.

“For me, my inspiration has been my mother. I would like to look like her when I am her age. She doesn’t look one bit her age. I feel teenagers are beautiful but women are just stunning!” claimed the Dilwale star. “Teenagers are pretty or cute and they would like that term. They like to describe themselves like so. As people grow older, whatever is inside them comes out and that is true beauty.” She went on to reveal that her husband Ajay Devgn compliments her only when she looks especially nice. “Ajay compliments me when I look exceptionally stunning. He will say ‘You are looking nice’, and that’s it,” Kajol shared.

The superstar – who has taken a bit of a backseat from acting over the last few years – has recently signed up for a new film with Ship of Theseus director Anand Gandhi. According to her, there is no difference between mainstream and art cinema. “I don’t agree with this thinking completely. There is nothing which can be called a mainstream or an art film. There are only good films and bad films,” Kajol clarified. “We make films so that the audience can enjoy it, leave their troubles behind and lose themselves into the story and those characters. And I believe I am going to make good films.”

Anand has previously written and directed critically acclaimed plays like Sugandhi, Pratyancha, Kshanotsav, Na and Janashtaru and a Gujarati play Chal Reverse Ma Jaiy. Kajol’s upcoming film with him will be an adaptation of one of his plays and Ajay will serve as the producer on it.
