ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) has given 16 net-metering connections to consumers in Rawalpindi and Islamabad so far. These consumers have generated 1.66 MW for the supplier. An Iesco spokesman told APP on Tuesday that all these connections were granted this year. Dozens of other applications for net-metering connections are being processed, he added.

Iesco Chief Executive Officer Dr Rana Abdul Jabbar said net metering was an innovative and immediate solution to the current power shortage.

He said the system offers opportunities for commercial and domestic customers to generate electricity through solar panels and sell their extra electricity to Iesco. He said domestic and commercial consumers could generate anywhere from one KW to one MW through net metering.
