HARIPUR: The Shia community on Sunday observed the chehlum of the martyrs of Karbala amid tight security. The processions started from Imam Bargah Qadeemia Purani on Committee Chowki and culminated at Jafri House.

Mourners from Muzaffarabad, Abbottabad, Taxila, Mankraey, Havelian and other cities participated in the procession.

Zakir Imran Rattan threw light on the martyrdom of Imam-e-Hussain (AS) and his companions at Karbala.

He said the Muslims in a number of countries were currently living under tyranny and that the current state of disunity and differences among Muslims was a key factor in this. He stressed on the need for unity among Muslim nations to fight against anti-Islamic forces.

To ensure security, the main bazaar and its link roads were sealed on Saturday evening. Heavy contingents of police were deployed on the route of procession.
