LAHORE: Punjab police chief Mushtaq Ahmad Sukhera has ordered the establishment of a welfare branch for police officials on a district-level.

The welfare branch would be supervised by a sub-inspector who would directly report to the District Police Officer (DPO), he said while speaking at a meeting of Welfare and Finance, Special Protection Unit (SPU), IT, Operations and Development wings officials held at the Central Police Office (CPO) on Wednesday.

Mushtaq said the in-charge welfare branch would forward cases of the district police officials to the CPO office immediately so that welfare funds could be transferred to the police officials concerned. The funds should be transferred directly to the bank accounts of police officials instead of issuing cheques in the name of DPO, he advised.

Mushtaq directed DIG Special Protection Unit (SPU) to allow weekly rest period and two leaves per month to the SPU officials. He said that the DSP should visit project checkposts every day and weapons and bullet-proof jackets of officials should be inspected.

He directed Commandant PC Hussain Asghar to complete construction work of the boundary wall of the Police Training Centre, Matti Tal, Multan and install closed-circuit television cameras (CCTV) and search lights immediately.

Security officials deployed at check posts should have automatic weapons and binoculars, he said, adding that bio-metric attendance of officials should be ensured.

He directed DIG Welfare to personally ensure monitoring of welfare branches at district-level along with keeping a close contact with RPOs and DPOs to prevent any delay in police official’s welfare cases.

IGP also directed Additional IGP Welfare and Finance to complete the project of trackers installation in police vehicles on a priority basis and to establish a dashboard in CPO’s control room by centralising monitoring mechanism within two weeks.
