The announcement was made by the Piaggio, Vespa’s parent company, ahead of the Esposizione Internazionale Ciclo e Motociclo (EICMA), or the Milan Motorcycle Show.
The company claims that the new scooter would still have the style and manoeuvrability of a classic Vespa with a cheaper-to-run, eco-friendly engine.
“The Vespa Elettrica will, first and foremost, be a true Vespa, bringing the very latest in electric technology to a vehicle that will retain all the features that have been vital to its success,” the company said.

The Elettrica is likely to hit the market sometime in the second half of 2017, however, Vespa hasn't mentioned how much it would cost.

Although the electric scooter are already cheap, expect this one to end up somewhere on the higher end of the Vespa price scale, somewhat closer to $10,000, Gizmodo said.
