In two months: Chinese company to lift trash from District East

Earlier, the firm signed similar agreement with DMC South

KARACHI: The Sindh Solid Waste Management Board will begin functioning in District East in two months, after District Municipal Corporation (DMC) East signed an agreement with the Chinese firm, Changyi Kangjie Sanitation Engineering Company, that will lift garbage door-to-door in the district.



Last month, DMC South signed the same agreement with the Chinese company, after obtaining a council resolution through the elected local government representatives. The DMC East chairman, Moeed Anwar, told The Express Tribune that after obtaining a resolution from their council, they have signed the agreement. According to the contract, the Chinese company will invest Rs700 million in the district.

Ninety-six vehicles will be used for garbage lifting while more than 4,000 dustbins and containers will be placed in different parts of District East, according to the agreement. Other than that, 70% of DMC East's vehicles and machines to be used in garbage collection will be purchased by the company while 20% will be rented by the company, said Anwar. He added that 10% of the DMC's vehicles will remain with them.

Anwar said that the Chinese company has assured to kick off their work in District East, two months after inking the agreement. The company will collect trash from every nook and cranny of the district and the main roads will be washed by them. Anwar added that Cantonment Board Faisal is not a part of the agreement.
