KARACHI: An anti-terrorism court (ATC) directed on Monday the police to initiate proceedings against a former Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader and others absconding in the Baldia factory fire case.

The ATC-II judge directed the investigation officer (IO) to start proceedings against MQM’s former Karachi Tanzimi Committee chief Hammad Siddiqui, party's former Baldia sector incharge Abdul Rehman alias Bhola and two others, to declare them proclaimed offenders.

Siddiqui, Rehman, Dr Abdul Sattar and Iqbal Adeeb Khanum are the suspects who have not approached the courts nor have been found by the police since their names surfaced in the reinvestigation of the case.

The IO told the judge that Siddiqui and Rehman were placed on Exit Control List recently. The judge asked the IO to seek the help of Interpol in arresting the suspects. The hearing of the case was adjourned till November 28.
