International recognition: Digital rights activist wins Dutch Tulip

Nighat Dad, founder and CEO of Digital Rights Foundation and a popular face for digital rights activism in Pakistan has been awarded the 2016 Human Rights Tulip Award, a statement released by the government of Netherlands said on Sunday.
Talking it out: Sindh’s human rights defenders need funds
The statement terms Dad “a staunch defender of digital rights and the importance of protecting women and girls and marginalised groups on social media”.
The annual Human Rights Tulip award is presented by the Dutch minister of foreign affairs to human rights defenders who take an innovative approach to promoting human rights.
The official award ceremony will be held on Human Rights Day on December 10 at The Hague where Dad will be handed over a bronze sculpture and €100,000 to further her cause. Koenders will present Dad with the award.

After the announcement, Dad tweeted: “Among all others voting campaign was run by @AseefaBZ @BakhtawarBZ and trended by @FarhanKVirk #celebrateDiversity Thank you!”
