Balochistan raids: Militant commander, several suspects held

A joint operation conducted in Quetta led to the arrest of the commander

QUETTA: A commander of a banned militant organisation and two other militants were arrested in separate raids by law enforcement agencies on Sunday.

According to sources, intelligence agencies and the anti-terrorism force conducted a joint operation near Airport Road of Quetta and arrested a terrorist working for a banned outfit.

During the raid, weapons, computer, explosive material, a military uniform and jihadi literature were seized. The terrorist was shifted to an undisclosed location for interrogation.

In two separate operations, the Frontier Corps arrested six suspected militants from Mastung and Mach areas of the province. The FC spokesman said that four suspected militants belonged to a banned outfit in a search operation launched in Shamsabad area of Mastung district.

FC and intelligence officials conducted operation in the area after receiving a tip-off about the presence of militants in the area. During the operation four suspects were taken into custody who have been handed over to the authorities concerned for interrogation.

The spokesman said, “four militants, who were arrested in the operation, have links with the banned Lashkar-e-Jhangvi.” He added that weapons were also seized from their hideout, which was later demolished.  The two other suspects were arrested from the operation in the Mach area of the province

Meanwhile, the Levies Force conducted a raid in the Gulistan area near the Pak-Afghan border and arrested a proclaimed offender on Sunday.

The accused was wanted in several cases by the Levies Force. The Levies Force officials said that after receiving a tip-off about presence of a proclaimed offender, a team conducted raid at a house in Gulistan area near Pak-Afghan border and arrested him. Further probe is underway.
