In wrestling: 13 medals for Pakistan in Singapore

Eight athletes from the country participated in the freestyle and Greco-roman events

KARACHI: Pakistan finished the Commonwealth Senior Wrestling Championship 2016 in Singapore with two silver medals and 11 bronze medals yesterday.

On the last day of the championship, Pakistan’s top wrestler Muhammad Inam bagged a silver medal in the 86kg freestyle event after losing to India’s Deepak in the final. Likewise, Muhammad Bilal had to settle for silver after losing the deciding match to an Indian opponent in the 57kg freestyle event.

In all, eight Pakistani athletes took part in the championship, winning a total of 13 medals over freestyle and Greco-roman events.

Inam, Nazir bring home gold, silver

“It was a great experience for us, especially before the Commonwealth Games that will take place in India in 2018,” Inam told The Express Tribune. “It was a close fight for me in the final, but it was a well-played match. I’m glad that we managed to compete here."
