WASHINGTON: Beyoncé and her husband, rapper Jay Z, performed at a concert in support of US presidential nominee Hillary Clinton in Ohio – a state in which the Democrat and her Republican rival, Donald Trump, are battling for decisive votes.

“I want my daughter to grow up seeing a woman lead our country and knowing that her possibilities are limitless,” said Beyoncé, expressing her support for Clinton at the concert on Friday. The event saw other artists including Chance the Rapper, J Cole and Big Sean perform as well. “We have to think about the future of our daughters, our sons and vote for someone who cares for them as much as we do. And that is why, I’m with her,” the singer added. Jay Z went on to introduce Clinton as the “Next president of the US,” adding that, “this other guy cannot be my president,” referring to Trump.

“When I see them, here this passion and energy and intensity, I don’t even know where to begin. Because this is what America is, my friends,” said Clinton.

At a Trump rally held simultaneously in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the reality star said he didn’t need to bring stars in endorse him and fill a stadium. “I hear we set a new record for this building and by the way, I didn’t have to bring JLo or Jay-Z the way she [Clinton] gets anybody,” Trump commented. “I am here all by myself. I am all here all by myself… Just me. No guitar. No piano. No nothing,” Trump said.

Last weekend, Jennifer Lopez and Marc Anthony headlined another concert for Clinton in Miami, while Miley Cyrus headlined one in Virginia a month ago. Katy Perry, who has already performed at a campaign concert for the Democrat, will perform in another one on Saturday in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, along with the former first lady.
