KARACHI: The Rangers claimed on Saturday to have arrested two suspects allegedly involved in sectarian and political-based killings in the metropolis.

One suspect, Syed Mehroz Mehdi Naqvi alias Mehdi Badshah, has confessed to sectarian-based killings in the city, including the targeted killings of Mufti Dilfaraz Mavia and Abu Bakar in Site area in February, 2013 and Mufti Usman Yar Khan, Muhammad Ali and Muhammad Rafiq on Sharae Faisal in February, 2014, said the Rangers spokesperson.

The spokesperson said that the accused has also revealed to have been involved in 22 more cases of murder as well as several cases of kidnapping for ransom, robbery, extortion and street crime, adding that the Rangers also recovered weapons on information provided by him. These weapons were allegedly to be used in the targeted killing of sectarian groups.

Earlier in the day, Rangers arrested an alleged target killer belonging to the Muttahida Qaumi Movement during a raid conducted in PIB Colony. The accused was identified as Ishtiaq alias Mama who has been associated with the party as a unit in-charge and has been involved in various cases of targeted killing on the directives of senior party leaders.

The accused also confessed to have killed Mohajir Qaumi Movement-Haqiqi workers and being involved in the attack on the Aaj Tv channel building during the May 12 mayhem in the city.
