An Indian man born with four legs has used social media to plead to doctors to amputate his two legs.

Arun Kumar, 22, was born with two extra limbs growing from his spinal column at the base of his back -- one underdeveloped and the other permanently bent at the knee.

Conjoined twins, a trip to Saudi Arabia and a risky operation

“If I get an operation and doctors take off my two extra legs, then I can also live a normal life. I may be able to move and walk properly like others. If they are willing to do an operation, then I'm ready,” the 22-year-old said.

Kumar’s mum, Kokila Devi, said she feared something was wrong when during the unusually painful delivery her baby got stuck and came out after much difficulty. After Kumar was born, the doctors noticed his extra limbs, which were the same size.

Kumar says he cannot move the extra pair of legs and does not have feeling in them. One of his legs is permanently bent at an angle. At the age of twenty-two Kumar is looking forward to having his extra limbs removed. When he was born, his uncle took him to a neighbouring town in order to have the extra pair of legs removed, but dangerous implications of the surgery stopped him from getting the surgery.

Kumar's father encouraged his son to live as best he could with the additional limbs, but the extra weight caused him a great deal of pain. Eventually doctors in Delhi took on his case and he has now decided to go ahead with the operation. Doctors are taking MRI and CT scans and seem optimistic about the operation.
