Nazimabad majlis attack: Police continue to ‘pick up’ suspects

KARACHI: As is the case with the investigation of other high-profile terrorism cases in Karachi, law enforcers continue to use their favourite modus operandi - picking up suspects - in the recent gun attack at a majlis in Nazimabad.

Though over 50 suspects have been taken into custody since the incident occurred Saturday evening, the law enforcers have yet to reveal any concrete clue about the perpetrators.

About two dozen suspects were taken into custody during targeted raids and operations in Moosa Colony, Nazimabad, Khilafat Chowk, Paposh Nagar, Gulshan-e-Iqbal and Shah Faisal Colony by police and Rangers on Monday. They were later shifted to an undisclosed location for further questioning.

Syed Zaki Abbas and three of his nephews - Baqar, Nasir and Nayyar - were shot dead along wither their driver, Nadeem, when gunmen riding a motorcycle opened fire on participants of a majlis at a house in Nazimabad No. 4 in District Central. Around half a dozen people, including women, were injured in the attack.

Though Nadeem’s funeral prayers were offered on Sunday, those of Abbas and his nephews were offered at Imambargah Ancholi Society after Zuhr prayers on Monday and were attended by number of people.

The participants of the funeral also staged a protest and demanded the government to launch a crackdown against the banned militant outfits still operating in the city.

The victims were later buried at Wadi-e-Hussain graveyard.
