More heavy lifting awaits Pakistan in Japan

Pakistan Weightlifting Federation will now be sending two athletes to Japan for the aforementioned competition

KARACHI: Pakistani weightlifters will be keen to build upon their recent success at the Asian Youth Championships, which begin in Japan from November 8.

At the recently concluded Commonwealth Youth, Junior and Seniors Championships and International Weightlifting Federation Youth Championship, national weightlifters Talha Talib won gold in 62kg category, Nooh Dastgir Butt took silver and bronze in the 105kg weight class, while Farhan Amjad grabbed bronze in 77kg.

Pakistan Weightlifting Federation (PWF) will now be sending two athletes to Japan for the aforementioned competition, with Nooh and Talib expected to get the nod.

“The event in Japan will be bigger than the Commonwealth Youth Championships,” PWF vice-president Rashed Malik told The Express Tribune. “Following a week’s rest, we’ll start working with our athletes on their weaknesses we observed at the Commonwealth Championships. There is still a lot of room for improvement.”
