GUJRANWALA: District Headquarters Teaching Hospital, Gujranwala has been in a dilapidated condition due to apathy of the government. The hospital consists of 50 beds for one million children.

In 2011, Punjab chief minister announced that the health facility would be upgraded to 1,100 beds but the provincial government failed to fulfill its promise.

With the passage of time, the population of Gujranwala District has increased manifold. Currently, the district’s population is 4.5 million of which one million are children under the age of six.

However, lack of beds in the hospital has created an alarming situation as two or three children with bacterial infections are being treated on one bed.

The hospital staff has urged the authorities concerned to address the issue at the earliest.
