SUKKUR: The repairs on Tori bund resumed on Saturday after a two-day standoff.

Sindh Irrigation Minister Jam Saifullah Dharejo and Sindh Food Minister Nadir Magsi inaugurated the construction on Thursday but a group of armed men approached the contractor, Rab Nawaz Chachar, and demanded money. They threatened him when he refused. He told authorities that he deployed dozens of policemen at the site, after which work partially resumed on Saturday. Workers said men raided the area again and began aerial firing but they left after seeing the police.

Work will be completed in three months, authorities said.
