KARACHI: Punjab’s top-order made merry at the expense of Sind bowlers in their Pentangular Cup second round match.

Sind’s decision to field first on the opening day backfired as the hosts ended the day strongly, losing just three wickets while piling up 347. The innings was dominated by Muhammad Ayub, who remained unbeaten on 117, and Azhar Ali who scored 92.

Openers Imran Farhat and Taufeeq Umar laid the foundation for the strong total as they put on a century stand. Umar scored 50 with the help of six boundaries while Farhat, in his 75, hit 12 fours.

For Sind, Sohail Khan was the most successful bowler and picked up two of the three wickets to fall. Anwar Ali picked up the one remaining wicket as Sind’s captain Khalid Latif will hope for an improved show today.

Balochistan fight back

Balochistan staged a remarkable recovery to reach 320 for nine against the Federal Areas.

Put into bat, Balochistan were left reeling at 88 for five but recovered well thanks to contributions from the middle order. Shoaib Khan (43), Saeed Anwar (95), Gulraiz Sadaf (68) and Rizwan Haider (61) fought back to keep their side in contention.

The Federal Areas attack stuck to its tasks with part-timer Umar Amin picking up two wickets for 32 runs. Zulfiqar Babar and Nazar Hussain will restart proceedings for Balochistan today.
