SC to hear petition seeking Imran's disqualification from NA on October 27
Apex court sends notices to PTI lawmakers, including party chairman
ISLAMABAD:
The Supreme Court will hear a petition seeking disqualification of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan and other MNAs of the party on October 27, less than a week before the Islamabad protest.
The court sent notices to Imran and other lawmakers on a petition submitted by PML-N’s former Senator Zafar Ali Shah. A three-judge bench headed by chief justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali will take up the appeal against the Islamabad High Court (IHC) order.
In his earlier petition, Zafar Shah had sought disqualification of PTI lawmakers who resigned from their seats last year. However, National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq did not accept the resignations submitted during PTI’s 126-day long sit-in last year.

In the current plea, the petitioner requested the court to accept the writ petition and declare all PTI MNAs as former lawmakers. Additionally, he pleaded that the National Assembly speaker sends a notification regarding the vacation of seats following the resignations and the Election Commission of Pakistan announces schedule of by-elections on the seats.
Earlier on October 20, the Supreme Court issued notices to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and others over petitions seeking his disqualification on account of Panama Papers leaks.

On August 28, Hamid Khan and Naeem Bukhari filed a constitutional petition on behalf of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairperson Imran Khan. The petition sought disqualification of PM and members of his family for their alleged involvement in Panama Papers scandal.
According to Imran Khan, the protest in the federal capital on November 2 won’t end unless the premier stepped down or returned the ‘looted money’ to the exchequer.
