PESHAWAR: Women from various tribal agencies on Thursday expressed concern over the delay in enforcement of the proposed reforms package for Fata, and called for immediate merger of Fata into Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Addressing a news conference at the local press club, Nousheen Fatima, the focal person of Takrah Qabaili Khwenday of Orakzai Agency, said that tribal women were adversely affected by militancy and prolonged military operations in tribal areas, but the reforms process had been completely ignored.

According to her, women had also been raising their voice against the imposition of the draconian law, the Frontier Crimes Regulations (FCR), in the tribal region.

Sakeena Bibi from Mohmand Agency said the women played a pivotal role in national development and demanded of the government to give them due rights.

She also called for the immediate merger of Fata into K-P and abolishing FCR to ensure fundamental rights to people in Fata. She said that Fata should be given due representation in the provincial legislature and superior judiciary’s jurisdiction should be extended over the tribal region.

Commenting on the reforms package, she expressed concern over lack of representation of tribal women in the reforms initiative.

Samon Masih, who belongs to a minority community in the Landi Kotal region of Khyber Agency, raised the issue of building churches in the tribal agency.

Earlier, Shahid Shah, the Convener of TQK, said that Fata authorities had not given appropriate response towards resolving women issues in the tribal region.
