ISLAMABAD: An anti-terrorism court on Thursday extended by two weeks the judicial remand of two key suspects nominated in the murder of Barrister Fahad Malik.

The court has further directed the police to submit a charge sheet in the next hearing.

Hearing the case on Thursday, ATC-I Judge Kausar Abbas Zaidi extended remand of Raja Arshad Mehmood and Noman Khokhar till November 3.

Remand was extended after their previous remand expired.

Mehmood, the key suspect, was arrested by the Federal Investigation Agency at the Torkham border while attempting to flee to Afghanistan on August 28.

Shalimar police had booked Mehmood, Khokhar and at least eight other unidentified people after Malik was gunned down in F-10/3 in the early hours of August 15.

Tariq Ayub, Malik’s uncle, was also injured in the attack, which took place near Shalimar Police Station.

In an application submitted to the police, Ayub maintained that he was injured by a bullet fired by Khokhar, while Malik was shot by Mehmood.

The police had booked the two along with eight unidentified assailants for murder, attempted murder and rioting. Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, 1997, had also been inserted in the case as the police said that the incident spread terror and fear in society.
