RAWALPINDI: Rawalpindi police have sealed the Kidney Center in Morgah on the orders of an area magistrate.

According to the police, the owner and doctors at Kidney Center had allegedly been involved in illegal transplantation of kidneys.

Separately, statements of 24 people, recovered from illegal detention at a Rawalpindi plaza in an organ smuggling racket, were recorded before a judicial magistrate on Wednesday.

The magistrate will today take up the bail petitions of four people arrested for their involvement in the racket. The four are currently on judicial remand at the Adiala jail.

Acting on a tip-off, the police on Saturday raided the basement of a plaza in Rawat and rescued 24 prospective ‘donors’. Officials had arrested four people — plaza owner Zafar Iqbal, prime suspect Faqeer Hussain, and facilitators Shezad Qayyum alias Shani and Bilquees Bibi.

In their petitions filed through Advocate Raja Imran Aziz, the accused had maintained that there was no evidence against them whether they had either detained 24 people or stolen their organs.
