LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has issued notice to the federal government on petitions challenging the punishment awarded by military courts.

Justice Abdul Sami Khan issued this order on Tuesday over petitions of Lela Bibi and Sabir Shah. Through their counsel, the petitioners submitted their relatives were punished through military courts without a fair trial.

The petitioners stated their relatives were not given right to engage and defend themselves. No charges were framed against them and they were awarded punishments directly.

The petitioners’ counsel submitted that every accused has the right to fair trial and no one can be punished without being given the right to defend himself against charges levelled on them. After hearing the arguments, the court issued notice to the federal government, asking for a reply by November 10.
