The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) of the UET has organised a three-day conference titled ‘IEEE All Pakistan Power and Energy Symposium 16’, which kicked off on Saturday at the UET Seminar Hall.
While speaking as the chief guest of the inaugural session, National Transmission & Despatch Company (NTDC) Managing Director Dr Fiaz Ahmad Chaudhry said Pakistan was facing an energy crisis, which offered opportunities for the youth in many projects to be launched.
UET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Fazal Ahmad Khalid said the UET had been taking part in many projects in the energy sector for which a standardised and updated curriculum was being provided to the students of the university.
He asserted that power generation and conservation were the basic pillars of the energy sector and emphasised the need to consume energy wisely with the help of modern technology.
The UET vice-chancellor also lauded the initiatives for community-building taken by the IEEE, adding the university was dedicated to providing technical skills to students.
Nisar Ahmad from the Renewable and Alternative Energy Association of Pakistan briefed the audience about the association’s objectives, reasons for the crisis and proposed solutions like improving efficiency, use of alternate renewable energy, awareness campaigns, mini and micro grids and net-metering.
UET Electrical Engineering Dean Dr Suhail Aftab Qureshi said academia and industry linkages would be helpful in attaining targets of development.
Representatives of different educational and industrial organisations along with UET faculty, administration and students were present at the ceremony.
