QUETTA: At least two Frontier Corps (FC) personnel were killed on Friday while another was critically injured as militants opened fire at them in Quetta.

The casualties occurred when a patrolling party of the law enforcement agency was targeted on Sabzal road of the provincial capital. The incident took place in the jurisdiction of Kharotabad police station.

Two of the personnel died from severe wounds while another was left critical after he received a bullet in his head.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Balochistan, Nawab Sanaullah Khan Zehri, strongly condemned firing at the personnel by armed militants. Zehri paid homage to the personnel who he said were killed in the line of duty. He also sought a report of the incident and directed measures to ensure arrest of the culprits involved.

Earlier on October 4, four women belonging to a Shia Hazara community were killed by unknown assailants in an allegedly sectarian-motivated targeted killing on Quetta’s Kirani Road.

In a similar incident, unidentified motorcyclists shot dead a Crime Investigation Agency sub-inspector in Quetta, less than two weeks after two personnel were killed in a roadside blast in the provincial capital.

Attacks on security forces by militants are not rare in Balochistan. The province has long been plagued by homegrown separatist insurgency and extremist violence which has left hundreds of people dead in the last couple of years.
