Security arrangements: Hospitals put on high alert across Peshawar

LRH calls in paramedics, nurses from other sections

PESHAWAR: Emergency has been declared in all the major health facilities of Peshawar, including Lady Reading Hospital.

Officials at the facility’s administration section stated that special duties have been assigned to nurses, paramedics and doctors and their numbers have also been increased at the accident and emergency section.

They stated that although the facility’s ambulances will not be accompanying Muharram processions but are going to be put on high alert so that they could be used in case of emergency. “Yes, the area has been completely cordoned off but we have Bala Hisar’s road open for traffic,” a senior administration official told The Express Tribune.

When asked, Director Accident and Emergency department Dr Khalid stated that the administration had called in paramedics and nurses from other sections. He added that since LRH was located in the middle of the city majority of the emergency cases were shifted to the facility.

Khalid stated that although specialists will be available on different shifts, he along with the deputy medical superintendent Dr Ghulam Subhani will be performing duties round the clock until today (Wednesday).

Police also checked all the arrangements, CCTV cameras and loudspeakers.  DSP Abdul Samad visited different parts of the facility to ensure security arrangements were in place, a statement issued by the LRH administration read.

Similarly, Hayatabad Medical Complex (HMC) administration has also stated that a huge stock of medicines used during emergency was available at the facility.

“Medical and surgical departments have been issued special direction to prepare for emergency situation,” a statement issued by the HMC administration informed.
