Constable Ali Ahmed, who was deputed with Rescue 15 in Islamabad, has been missing since September 22.
Ahmed had been visiting his family in his native Sahiwal over Eid. He returned to his Police Line quarters in Islamabad on September 20. Having moved back, he was still in contact with his family and spoke with them on September 22.
When his family tried contacting him the next day, on September 23, they discovered that his phone was switched off. Perturbed, they tried contacting his friends to determine if something had happened.
But when none of his friends could get in touch with him, his family became worried. Ahmed’s brother, Liaquat, then travelled to the capital on September 28.
After searching for Ahmed for days, Liaquat lodged an FIR at the Shams Colony Police Station that unidentified men had kidnapped his brother.
Ahmed’s family told the police that the constable did not have an enmity with anyone in his native village. Instead, they suspect something had happened in Islamabad after which he was kidnapped.
Police registered a kidnapping case on October 5 and started a search for the missing officer.
Police officials told The Express Tribune that they were trying to trace Ahmed using his mobile phone records.
“We are collecting his mobile phone data and interrogating all the people who have contacted him over the past few days,” said a police officer, who did not wish to be named since he was not authorized to speak to
the media.
He further told The Express Tribune that the mobile phone data of the missing policeman showed that “the policeman was in British Homes area and then Saddar in Rawalpindi before the set was switched off.”
But beyond those locations, the officer said they had failed to find any concrete clues so far, though they expect to make some headway in the next few days.
