On Monday, Justice Ayesha A Malik set aside two notifications issued by the industries secretary that allowed the shifting of Chaudhry Sugar Mills, Ittefaq Sugar Mills, Haseeb Waqas Sugar Mills, Abdullah (Yousaf) Sugar Mills and Abdullah Sugar Mills to other districts.
Sharifs’ sugar mills host 300 Indians, says Qadri
JDW Sugar Mills, owned by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s Jahangir Tareen, among others had filed petitions against the shifting of the mills, alleging the industries secretary had acted with mala fide intent.
Punjab government’s lawyer had contended there was a dire need to relocate sugar mills due to the change in crop patterns and improved environmental conditions. He argued there was no violation of the ban or national interest.

He argued the policy allowed relocation to protect the sugar industry.
The court, however, restrained the respondent sugar mills from carrying out their business on relocated premises.
