Heinous crime: Illegal blood bank raided

BAHAWALPUR: In order to curb the sale and purchase of illegal blood, the district administration raided a blood bank and seized 22 blood bags, 23 bags of Plasma (white Cell), 500 empty bags, including forged government seals and documents.

The raid was conducted by Assistant Commissioner Dr Adnan Khan on Sunday.

A police official said the raid was conducted at the blood collection point in Dr. Ziauddin Hospital which was located at Sheikh Zayed Hospital Road. He added the owners of the hospital were running an illegal blood bank. He said during search of the laboratory, several illegal blood bags, government seals and forged pads were confiscated.

Meanwhile, Adnan said the suspects were also involved in buying and selling of blood within and outside the city, while infected blood was being provided to patients. He warned that those involved in this heinous crime will not be spared and will be awarded exemplary punishment.
