ABBOTTABAD: The entire staff of the Nawanshehr police station was suspended by District Police Officer (DPO) Abbottabad on Saturday over a suspected case of extra judicial killing. The suspended officials have been directed to report to police lines.

However, an official at the station who did not wish to be named told The Express Tribune that they have not received any official notice in this regard.

“May be its true but we have not received any such order,” the official remarked.

On the other hand, Mirpur DSP Amjad Hussain partially confirmed the development stating that the entire staff of the precinct, from constables to the SHO, had been ordered to report to the police lines. He, however did not confirm whether the DPO had suspended the staff.

The Nawanshehr police was accused of the extra judicial killing of Junaid Khan, alias Joni, of Nawanshehr Mohallah Lakh Pati Chowk following his custodial torture on the night of September 23.

Police had claimed that he was killed in a shootout with police which also left two constables injured.

Joni’s family had protested his death claiming that he had been extra-judicially killed.

They had demanded criminal cases to be registered against DSP Hussain, Nawanshehr SHO and all other police officials involved.
