Phone appears to have exploded in transit

It seems like Apple and Samsung can't have enough of copying each other.

Apple, which followed in Samsung’s footsteps with its iPhone 6 ditching traditional small screen models,  has found itself embroiled in a Samsung like incident. Recently, a Reddit user posted an image of a matte black iPhone 7 Plus that appears to have exploded.



The user, who goes by the moniker kroopthesnoop, claimed one of his co-workers pre-ordered an iPhone 7 Plus. He said the phone appeared to have exploded before being delivered.

Later, the Reddit user updated the thread saying an Apple representative had contacted his colleague through him. Apple will work with AT&T to expedite a replacement phone, he quoted the representative as saying.

Unlike Samsung’ battery problem, the phone exploded in transit. “Something happened between the factory and delivery,” the Reddit user said.

It’s still premature to ascertain the exact cause behind the explosion as Apple is yet to comment on the matter. Nevertheless, one thing is clear -- Apple will not be able to capitalise on Samsung's misfortune if its phones start exploding as well.

Earlier this month, Samsung initiated a voluntary global recall of at least 2.5 million Galaxy Note 7 smartphones due to faulty batteries causing some devices to catch fire, an extremely embarrassing crisis for a firm that prides itself for its quality control. The recall could cost the company billions of dollars and tarnish its brand image, analysts say.
