BAHAWALPUR: At least 250 mourning processions will be taken out in Bahawalpur District during Muharram, while 1,600 special police officials will be deputed on security duty.

Additional SP Ghulam Murtaza said this on Thursday, adding the police department will ensure that no untoward incident takes place during Muharram, while concrete measures will be taken to maintain peace in the district.

He said as part of the plan, 27 upper subordinates, 1,095 lower subordinates and 465 volunteers will be deployed on
the duty.

Meanwhile, the security plan for Muharram had been formulated, while SDPOs and SHOs will brief the officials regarding security steps.

In addition, the police officers will conduct meetings with peace committees to formulate a comprehensive strategy for the safety of the mourners. Besides, a control room had been established in DPO office.
