Busting crime: Islamabad police gets homicide unit

Unit will have five investigation teams and will be headed by SP Investigation

ISLAMABAD: In view of the steady rise in the murder rate in the capital, a new homicide unit has been formed  in the Islamabad Police department on Wednesday.

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad ,Tariq Masood Yasin,  inaugurated the homicide unit of the Investigation Wing at Police Line Headquarters at a ceremony, a statement said.

The unit will consist of five teams and function under the Special Investigation Unit (SIU). Superintendent Investigation Captain (retired) Muhammad Alyas would head these teams.

Each team will comprise  an Inspector, one SI, one ASI and three constables. The unit has also been assigned five vehicles, one for each team, to investigate murder cases. Addressing the Darbar, IGP Yasin said lauded the investigation wing’s role in successfully curbing crime. He directed SP Investigation to ensure training of all unit members.

Captain (retired) Alyas presented a three-month performance report of Investigation Wing to the IGP.

The report stated that SIU and Anti-Car Lifting Cell (ACLC)’s Sub-Inspector Liaqat Ali had arrested 17 suspects and recovered 14 vehicles, two motorbikes and ammunition from their possession.

Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) Manzoor Elahi had arrested 13 accused and recovered 10 vehicles, two motorbikes and ammunition from them.

Likewise, ACL and SIU had nabbed 74 suspects while busting a total of 35 criminal gangs and recovered vehicles, motorcycles and valuables of worth millions of rupees from them.
