Second in two days: Another body found dumped in city

Police say the 26-year-old victim had been strangled to death

ISLAMABAD: Police on Sunday night found the body of a woman stuffed inside a bag which had been dumped by the roadside near Sabzi Mandi.

This is the third body to be recovered from the city in a week.

Sabzi Mandi police said that they had discovered an unclaimed bag lying by the roadside late on Sunday. When they opened the bag, they found the woman’s body stuffed inside.

The body was subsequently moved to a hospital for post-mortem and identification.

On Monday, officials managed to identify the body as 26-year-old Anam Saleem.

Officials said she had been strangled to death.

Upon checking Safe City Project cameras installed nearby, police said a taxi was seen dumping the bag but the taxi’s number plate was not visible.

Police said Anam, who hailed from Kharian in Gujrat district, had returned to Pakistan from the UAE on September 22.

The victim’s family in Gujrat has been contacted and officials are collecting more information about her.

Police are also checking security cameras installed at the airport to find out more about her and her acquaintances.

Earlier on Friday, police found the the mutilated body of, so far, an unidentified 50-year-old man from a sack which had been dumped by the roadside in Sector I-14-A.

Noon Police Station chief Inspector,  Abdus Sattar Shah,  told The Express Tribune on Sunday that they received a phone call on Sunday morning about a suspicious bag lying on the roadside behind the Haji Camp in Sector I-14-A. Subsequently a police team was dispatched to the site to investigate.

Officers,  who arrived at the scene opened the bag to find the mutilated remains of an unidentified man who appeared to be around 50-years old.

Shah , said that the body bore signs of multiple injuries to the face and head indicating that he may have been tortured. The officer further said that the man’s face had been disfigured so he could not be visually identified.
