ABBOTTABAD: After a wait of almost a year, the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to the Abbottabad University of Science & Technology (AUST).

An official notification to the effect was issued on September 23. The NOC has been initially issued for six months for nine disciplines of the AUSTs undergraduate programs including management sciences, psychology, pharmacy, english, mathematics, information technology, microbiology, economics and Pakistan studies.

AUST was formally inaugurated last year by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister’s Adviser for Higher Education Mushtaq Ghani on September 5, 2015. The provincial government formally notified AUST as a full-fledged university in June 2015. However, the varsity failed to get an NOC after an HEC inspection team pointed out certain shortcomings.

According to Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Iftikhar Ahmed, the HEC had pointed out that the varsity needed to appointment a VC, set up administrative bodies and acquire sufficient faculty and buildings to secure the NOC. Dr Ahmed said that all the requirements had now
been met.

He claimed that AUST will soon emerge as one of the best universities in the country.

“AUST is situated on one of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor routes and near the central point of divisional headquarters. This will enable fast track development,” the vice chancellor said.
