SUKKUR: A minor girl was saved by a whisker when a crocodile attacked her in a village near Riazabad, Salehpat area of Sukkur on Friday.

The incident occurred at Nara Canal when a crocodile attacked a girl among the children playing near the embankment.

The children started shouting as soon as they witnessed the attacking animal, prompting the villagers to arrive there and subsequently informed the wildlife department.

However, no official reached the spot despite a lapse of three hours, while the crocodile continued to roam around in the village.

The villagers then decided to handle the matter on their own and surrounded the animal, eventually forcing it to go back to the river.

Meanwhile, Deputy Conservator of Wildlife Department Taj Shaikh was not available for comments on the subject.

On 14 August 2013, seven people including two women were injured when several crocodiles suddenly emerged from a river in Muridke, Sheikhupura district of Punjab and attacked the crowd that had gathered there.
